Among the sheet metal cutting services offered by Ense – a leader in the industry throughout Northern Italy – is oxy cutting. Our company has five machines for this process, with working ranges of 6 x 7 x 77 ml and a maximum workable thickness of 500 mm.
A procedure for cutting sheet metal or metal sections, oxy cutting uses an oxyacetylene flame and a jet of pure oxygen, thus cutting the material without any physical contact and guaranteeing high precision. The principle is that when they reach incandescence, ferrous materials containing a certain percentage of carbon will burn if they are in an oxygen atmosphere.
Perfect for cutting mild steels (those with a carbon content of between 0.12% and 0.25%), oxy cutting is performed by means of a torch from which two concentric gas streams exit: an external jet of fuel that serves to redden the metal, and a central jet of oxygen under pressure that creates the over-oxygenated flame and the cut, also removing all the slag.
There are several fields of application for oxy cutting, starting with ship-building and ending with civil and urban engineering, although its most common use is in construction. However, it is necessary that oxy cutting is performed by competent and experienced operators, capable of preventing those errors and small smears that would compromise the final result.
And it is staff training, something Ense has always relied on, that has made our company a trusted leader.
